It used to be the best way to get your hands on some BlackBerry action without having to actually buy a handset from Research in Motion, but now Nokia is cutting that virtual cable. Nokia has decided that BlackBerry Connect will no longer be updated for Nokia S60 devices, including the latest batch of E-series smartphones.

According to Nokia rep Simon Ainslie, "RIM are a competitor and have done a reasonable job in a space that is traditionally ours, so it's no great surprise that we see this as an opportunity to give consumers a proper choice on what email solution they want." If that's the case, then Nokia needs to seriously work on a better OEM email solution.

Personally, I thought that it was a little strange that Nokia offered any BlackBerry support in the first place, because they are competing for the same market. It would be like Apple offering Microsoft Exchange support on the iPhone... wait a minute...

With a 5 megapixel auto-focus-LED Flash camera, the phone is equipped with 240MB of internal memory, which can be expanded up to 8GB.

In addition, the phone comes with face detection technology, image stabilizer, CMOS video lens and Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) features.

The phone offers customisable features like Drag ‘n’ Drop and Auto Smile Shot coupled with full touch navigation.

The drag and drop feature allows widgets to be selected from the left panel of the screen and dropped anywhere on the home screen.

The Auto Smile Shot feature enables the camera to detect when a person is smiling and automatically takes a picture when in the ‘smile shot’ mode.

Placed in the lifestyle segment, the phone offers a host of entertainment features. With a 2.8-inch TFT LCD (240x320) display screen, the phone has an integrated FM radio, multi-format video playback (MPEG4, H.263, H.264, WMV, Real), and MPEG4 video recording and editing functions.

Announcing the launch Sunil Dutt, Country Head, Samsung Telecommunications India said, “Given the growing consumer interest in touchscreen phones, TouchWIZ offers a full touch navigation experience; widgets with ‘drag and drop’ technology and user interface with Haptic Feedback which makes phone highly interactive.”

The phone is compatible with GPRS, EDGE, 3G, HSDPA (7.2mbps) networks and functions on GSM 900/1800/1900, and WCDMA 2100 bands.

Available in metallic body casing and leather cover, the phone is priced at Rs 20,990.
